Handicapping races on the grass (turf) requires a very different approach than dirt races.

First and foremost, the handicapper must realize that you cannot accurately project a horse’s performance by how they ran their dirt races.

A second significant factor in predicting the outcome of turf races is to properly understand the crucial role class plays.

 

Put simply, CLASS is the most important variable in handicapping turf races.But how do you determine class on grass when there is a variety of ways to measure or determine class?
