Robert Has an Idea

Tom Console tells us: While my fixation has always been mostly on speed, pace and recency, Bob (Anthony) was mostly fixated on Class.  Now both the URTI and RPG  analyze and rate dozens of handicapping factors, including vagaries like post position, 2-split turn time measurements, troubled trips, etc., one of the major elimination factors is class, i.e., ‘is this horse capable of running with this caliber of horse he is facing today?’  Bob had reams of research on Class even before the advent of the computer database that could analyze any handicapping factor in seconds. 

Bob had laid off the system creating process a few years ago but a few months ago I got a call from Australia (where he lives now) and he said:  ‘I have an idea’.

He told me he had been pondering an approach that he saw was in heavy use by handicappers in Australia, and figured if he added this formulation to his accurate Class Algorithms for US racing it could make those algorithms even more accurate.

So he emailed me the details and asked our programmer to use these new factors along with some of the others he had devised and, Voila!, thus was born The Pro Class Power Match Software Program!

The Columns

R = # of races analyzed

LAST = days since last race

M/L = morning line

TOT = number of points earned from algorithms in the columns to the right

ZIPFACTOR = smoothly blends drf/bris/equibase speed ratings into one clear, clean number.

CLASS1 = makes clever use of the Kelly Class Number (patented by Len Cz) by comparing up to 2o past race ratings, finish in the race, speed # in the race, and current fitness (using Tom Hambleton’s Form Points).

CLASS2 = employs the ‘Classmatic’ formulation used in Australian and New Zealand handicapping.  This is a rating that compares recent class performance to lengths gained between certain markers.

CONFIDENCEFACTOR = an evaluation of the success of the connections, jockeys, trainers and owners of each runner.  Higher ratings will come in high purse value races, as would be expected.

ACTIONPLUS = odds patterns that have proven strong indicators of an upcoming big performance.
